Vascular Sonologist

Category Vascular Sonologist

Vascular sonography is a challenging yet rewarding profession. As a sonographer working in this field, you'll use ultrasound machines to produce images of a patient's veins and arteries using high-frequency sound waves. Vascular ultrasound is a noninvasive ultrasound method used to examine the blood circulation in the arms and legs. Noninvasive means the procedure does not require the use of needles, dyes, radiation or anesthesia. Vascular ultrasound uses sound waves to evaluate the body's circulatory system and help identify blockages in the arteries and veins and detect blood clots. A Doppler ultrasound study – a technique that evaluates blood flow through a blood vessel – is usually part of this exam. Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, has no known harmful effects, and provides images of soft tissues that don't show up on x-ray images.
